ATV and Trailer Ready for Wilderness Landscape Photography Trip to the South Australian Outback
The ATV and Trailer Stand Ready for Another Trip
The ATV is ready for another photography trip to the South Australian outback. Quite a bit of work went into preparing the ATV for traveling the desert in July 2005, beyond where the car and trailer will go.
Trailer Modifications
Now, with the benifit of a trip to Andamooka Station and Lake Torrens on the ATV, behind me, I've put car wheels and hubs on the small trailer which should overcome the puncture and bearing failure problems that threatened to strand me in the desert previously.
The larger wheels should roll over the sand dunes more easily and so not hold the ATV back so much. Perhaps the ATV and trailer will cross sand dunes more readily now.
Desert Isolation
Out beyond Roxby Downs, Andamooka and east to the area along the western shore of lake Torrens, the landscape is decidedly wilderness.
On my coming trip in August 2005 I hope to leave the car at Bosworth Homestead, about 70 km from the bitumin. Then, the plan is to set up a base camp about 20 to 50 km from the homestead and make day trips on the ATV, without the trailer, from there.
Among the determining factors will be whether the terrain allows me to travel and whether I can find my way, in the dark. It may be that I'll need to move camp each day and photograph close to camp.
