Black & White Landscape Images - Bosworth Station and Andamooka
Black and white, urban landscape and wilderness landscape images from Andamooka Opal Field and Bosworth Station in outback South Australia
Photography in B&W at Bosworth Station
I left the highway about 10 km north of Woomera and drove the 82 km of dirt station road through Arcoona station to Bosworth station homestead.
That's where I left the car and trailer and after a cuppa and some good geography and topography advice from station owner, Max Greenfield, headed off on my ATV with it's small trailer loaded with camping gear.
After a two hour ride over the roughest, loosest, rockiest country you could imagine, I found myself across the narrow channel and on Andamooka Island in Lake Torrens.
Since the sun was about set, the first spot that looked like I might get a tent peg in the ground and find some firewood, became my base camp for the following five days and nights.
Light Metering by the Sunny 16 Rule
On the first day of photography on Bosworth Station, I lost my light meter out of my pocket, presumably when riding the ATV over the desert landscape. The ground, strewn with rocks, made it pointless even looking for the meter. The light metering for the images on this page was estimated using the sunny 16 rule.
Opal Miners Cottages at Andamooka Opal Field
One thing is for sure: the early opal miners had no trouble finding rocks to build their cottages.
They must have done it prety tough in country where the temperature gets to 50°C and the average rainfall is 150mm.
