Tantawangalo Snow - Medium Format Wilderness Landscape Photography

Tantawangalo Snow

There was a major snow fall. A photographer friend, who has a land cruiser, was taking his two boys so didn't have room for me. I opted to go for a wilderness photography trip in the car.

The Brown Mountain Road, part of the Snowy Mountains Highway, was closed and I wouldn't get past the barriers and, maybe, police. The Tantawangalo Mountain road seemed like the next best choice.

Round the barriers and up the mountain I headed till with the increasing depth of the snow the car just wouldn't go any further. While reversing back down I nearly went over the edge. I learnt some valuable lessons that day.

There was still enough Tantawangalo snow for wilderness photography below the extent of my achieved altitude.

The drab and cluttered bush had taken on a new look with many on old stump highlighted against a backdrop of Tantawangalo snow covered scrub.

Perhaps in the comming winter I'll have another chance at wilderness photography in the Tantawangalo snow. Next time I'll leave the car below the snow line and hitch a lift with some farm lad and his girlfriend in a 4x4 ute heading up to see the sights.
