Fresh Rain Water From the Creeks Soon Stops Running and the Lower Water Courses Become Super Saturated With Salt

Opal Creek and Teatree Creek meet not far from the town of Andamooka and form a usually dry creek bed to Lake Torrens, 20 klm away to the east.

In the creek beds are many teatrees with their white paperbark which catches the morning and evening sun with gusto, forming brilliant, eyecatching displays of random shapes and curves.

Along Opal Creek and Teatree Creek within a few klms of the opal mines are numerous disused and disfunctional windmils, built over wells dug into the water table below the level of the creek bed.

The shallow water hole at this entrance to Lake Torrens is much more salty than the open lake, most of which shows a dry crust on the mud. Rain about a week ago gave enough runoff to deliver some water to the water hole but not enough to flow out into the main lake.
