Bringing you up to date on the house progress – 18 Nov 07

We moved out of the house on 25 August.  We had to be out two weeks prior to demolition so that we could put down rat baits.  We have moved into a rental down at Golden Bay.  It’s a nice little 3×1 about 10 mins walk from the beach.  It will do the job til we can move into the new house.

On 9 Sep we had our demolition party.  This was the day before the demolition happened so we let the kids (and the adults) draw on the walls and we moved the bbq into the loungeroom.  Quite a few passers by slowed down as they drove past with the amount of smoke pouring out of the house.  My friend Di, from the UK, was able to spend a few days with us on her way back to the UK.  It was great to be able to show her around Perth and she got to share this with us all.  It was a good day if a bit sad to say goodbye.

Demolition started the next day.  See the sequence of photos.  It was all gone in 4 days.  It doesn’t seem right that it will take up to 14 months to get the new house built but only took 4 days to get rid of the old one.

Day 5 - Vacant block

It took quite a while, felt like forever but was only 6 weeks for the next thing to happen.  We were paying out money for all these things with no sign of any change on the block.  6 weeks and 2 days after demolition was complete the slab went down.  Yaay it was a start.  The following week the drain guy came through and connected all the plumbing up to the sewerage.  The following week after that all the bricks have been delivered.   Mind you we might have to ask the builders a few questions.  Check out the colour of the toilet they’ve had delivered.
