House goings on
Our first big news is that we have some more new additions to the family. We have 2 goldfish swimming around on our dining table. The boys haven’t quite worked out what they are all about but I do like having them there.
The chooks are regularly laying 3 eggs a day which is fantastic. I just don’t have that many ideas for recipes using eggs. Maybe I should start making more cakes.
Our veges are also doing quite well. We have pulled up the baby finger carrots that we planted. We’re not sure if they were meant to get any bigger but they were nice and juicy. Our corn is doing great. We have one ear (?) of corn that I can see so far but lots of other furry bits coming out the top of the plants so I can only assume more will come. Four of the potatos took so we will soon be having fresh potatoes from the garden too. The tomatoes haven’t done as well as I had hoped but have still done pretty well. There is still only one pumpkin on the plant but it seems to have taken off again with a whole heap of new shoots so hopefully we will get some more. The first batch of peas I planted didn’t do so well so I planted some more. This batch is doing lots better.
Dale has also started work on the patio on the other side of the house. All the framework is up and the roofing sheets down the side of the house are on. Just the roof around the back of the house to go on and then he can get started on the paving.
The front of the house is now fully planted out, we think. We bought 12 natives in tube stock (a lot cheaper that way) and all bar one seem to have taken quite well.
But that’s about it for now. We are thinking about painting a couple of feature walls inside but will tell you all about that when we do it.
