Twin update – 17 Feb 08
Hi everybody
Brock and Zac were four weeks on Wed 13 Feb so I will do a bit of an update on what’s been happening.
On Thursday 24 Jan the boys were moved from Nursery 3 to Nursery 2. This is a good thing. The boys graduate from nursery to nursery as they get better.
They were still in there incubators but were not on CPAP anymore. The CPAP was just putting air in there lungs and helping inflate them so they had been doing ok from day one.
Brock in incubator – 30 Jan
On Friday 25 Jan I was changing Zac’s nappy and he decided to wee everywhere. It’s kind of a challenge to change a nappy with your hands through the two port holes in the side of an incubator but it can be done. The nurses do it all the time but it takes some getting used to for us new parents. Anyway, I managed to catch it all in the nappy but it was quite funny.
Brock has also shown that his bits are working well when I managed to wear a projectile loose pooh up my arm. It also went on the linen and the floor and the new nappy that I was trying to put on him. Oh well, I changed him and then proceeded to feed him.
On 2 Feb the boys were moved into Nursery 2B and into open cots. This was great cos now we were able to pick the boys up a lot easier and pretty much when ever we want.
When we arrived the next day a double cot had become available and they were both in the cot together. We had been waiting for this moment and it was really good to seem them side by side. Here is a photo of them in the cot together.

I am now giving both boys two feeds a day. They are also having bottle feeds a couple of times and the rest of the feeds are by the tube in there nose.
They have both been putting on weight slowly but surely. Brock weighed 1705g and Zac weighed 1720g for their 4 week birthday.
Today while we were up there I noticed that they have measured their head circumferences again. Brock is now measuring 32 cm and Zac is measuring 32.5 cm.
Here is a photo from Wednesday.

Dale and I have worked out a bit of a routine now. Brock is fed on the hour Zac on the half hour every three hours. I change Brock’s nappy and take his temperature and then feed him. Dale then has a cuddle with Brock while I change and feed Zac. Here are a couple of photos of Dale having cuddles.
Dad and Brock Dad and Zac
I am catching the train up of a morning and Dale is back to working full days this week. The train is great and there is a bit of a walk at the other end from the station so I am starting to get some exercise. I’ll be back to my pre pregnancy weight in no time.
We are hoping that Brock and Zac will be moving down to Peel hospital (the hospital closest to us at home) in the next week or two. This will mean a whole lot less driving for Dale which will be great. I will need to room in but this will give me a chance to work out how to look after them on my own but with the nurse support available if I need it.
That’s it for now. Catch you all again soon.
