Update on baby news etc
Across to twins for baby progress.
After a fantastic holiday with Dale where we had lots of practice baby making I took a pregnancy test in Jul. I had a suspicion, obviously, otherwise I wouldn’t have done the test, but didn’t really expect it to be positive. It was! I woke Dale up with a surprise positive that morning, and some of you will know how awake he isn’t in the morning. I think he woke up pretty quick that morning.
All was going well, I had no morning sickness but was very tired. We had decided to go down to Peel Health Campus cos they had a shared care with doctors and midwifes and I was hoping for a natural and easy birth. Was very comfortable with the idea of a midwife and was happy with it all. I was feeling good but not pregnant so decided to ask for an ultra sound, was able to get booked in and we went down and had a scan the following week (at 14 weeks). What a surprise we got to find out we were having twins. Yup! Two litle McTomes were growing inside my tummy.
I can’t really see it in the scan, but here is our first twin scan.
Because it was twins though I was now unable to go through the midwives so booked in to see an obstetrician. They also discovered that it appeared that there was only one placenta and one sac. This is quite rare and a very high risk birth. We were able to get into the obstetrician 2 weeks after the first scan. Dr Kell was great and also couldn’t find a membrane dividing the sac and broke it to us that we would have to see a specialist up at King Edward Memorial Hospital.
Fortunately we were then able to get in to see the specialist and to have another scan another couple of weeks later. We got to King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH), paid for our video of the ultrasound and waited to get in. I’m not sure about Dale but I was feeling pretty stressed but trying not to. We got in for the ultrasound and also met the specialist at the same time.
The best news that we go while were there was that there was a membrane. The pregnancy is still risky cos of the single placenta but much less risk than single sac as well. I was so relieved. We had been told that this was going to be quite a techinical pregnancy with lots of scans so we decided to find out the sex. The sonographer was able to tell us that both McTomes babies are blue. Two boys to carry on the family name or maybe not. Being unwed parents, the little b#stards, might not carry there dads name. hehe
So, now that there was less of a little less risk we started moving ahead with our plans. Dale had been talking about the need to get a new car. We test drove a Kia Grand Carnival and quite liked it. We asked the local dealer for a trade in price on the Sorento and started thinking about it. It wasn’t a great trade in so we continued looking around. Dale loves the Autotrader and was having a look through and found a second hand Kia Grand Carnival a lot cheaper. After a test drive and a better trade in quote from this company we are now the proud owners of a a blue Grand Carnival.
I think we are both a bit sad at having to give up our Sorento which we had some great times in but sometimes you have to do these things.
We have another appointment with the specialist, another scan and our first visit to the ante natal clinic this Wednesday. It will be good to see the boys again and see they are both ok. I think I am feeling them moving around but not 100% sure. Hopefully soon Dale will be able to feel them too.
This is a rather embarassing photo, but here is me at 20 weeks and 5 days. I had to get my belly button taken out cos the doc said it could scar cos of my bellie stretching. This was an attempt at getting one last photo of it before it was gone.
Congratuations. My daughter had identical twin boys 12 weeks ago. Despite much worrying (me) all went well, I hope that all goes as well for you. x
