Week 2 – Day 7 – Swansea to Hobart

Dang it was cold last night. The heater in our room turned off after 3 hours and it got very cold after that. I had to turn my electric blanket up to 3 in the middle of the night and it was still a bit cool. Dale also woke up cold. We were able to sleep in this morning though so that was nice. See the view from the verandah of our little room.

After a leisurely start to the day we drove down to Richmond. Richmond is a lovely little historic town with a very old bridge. There were also a lot of ducks.

It was a pretty quiet drive today though. When we got to Hobart we stopped in at “Pete’s Patch” in the Botanical Gardens. Although the total area was bigger than I thought the actual vege beds were quite a bit smaller. It was interesting to see it for real after having seen it so many times on the tele.

Tomorrow is the Cadbury factory in the morning and the Cascade Brewery in the afternoon.

I can’t believe that we are at the end of the second week of our holiday already. It is going very quickly but we are both enjoying ourselves very much. Dale has got the car all dirty again after coming across the centre of Tasmania on unsealed roads so he is happy.

Catch you all again tomorrow.

Ciao D & E

Note from Dale: even though my mum used to live in Swansea, I can honestly say that I’m not in a hurry to visit there anytime In the near future. I had heard that unless you were born there that you will never be considered a local; and let me tell you, the locals are not very forth coming to visitors either. Pretty well everywhere we went, it was like we were “intruders” or something, and even though we were in a shop where we were going to spend money it was like they could not get us out of there quick enough.

On a good note though, I can highly recommend the drive across the centre of Tas from Strahan to Swansea. I had never crossed Tassie that way before, and it was great fun. Yes one of the main highways (Marlborough Hwy) was unsealed, but that to me just added to the enjoyment of the drive. As Enid has already reported, it snowed for quite a while during the journey which was great. In my view, yesterdays drive from West to East was the best drive of our trip so far.

That said, the car is a bloody mess!. But I’m dealing with that (with therapy) :-)
