Week 3 – Hobart – Devonport – Melbourne – Bega

Sorry that we have been a bit slack in updating the blog over the last few days. It’s been a bit of a rush and so you are going to get the last 3 days in one big lot.

On Saturday morning we went to Salamanca Markets. We were both all rugged up as it was only about 5 degrees. Had a really nice wander around and enjoyed a quick lunch.

Saturday night Chris and Maree had organised for a bit of a family get together for Dales dads 70th birthday (due 18 Oct). As it was the only time that we were going to be there with the family so it seemed like an ideal opportunity. Have put in a few photos of the family here for you to enjoy.

Sunday morning we had a sleep in before heading around to the family to say goodbye and departing for Devonport. On the way we stopped at Christmas Hills which is a raspberry farm. We had a delicious serve of scones with fresh raspberry and jam. It was delicious. We also stopped at the Anvers chocolate factory. You wouldn’t have thought that we could possibly enjoy more chocolate but it was quite different to Cadbury, but still in a good way. They also had some very yummy dark chocolate there Kevin (wink wink).

Up to the boat and across Bass Strait back to “the mainland” It seemed to be a bit rougher this time across but we both still managed to get a sleep. It’s an early start on the boat though as you come alongside at 7am. During the evening we had asked a customer service consultant on the boat about tolls and the way out of Melbourne to get to the Princes Highway. He was great and told us the easiest way to get out of Melbourne and bypassing both the city and all the tolls. It was good and we had a wonderful run out of the city. As we were heading out of the city we heard about the shooting that had happened in the centre of town we were more than happy to have gone that way.

Although the drive wasn’t the longest in kilometers that we have done it was a very long day. It’s a long and windy road up and down hills so it was quite tiring. Along the way we saw a teddy bears picnic set up on the side of the road. We had to do a u-turn and take a photo of Lion at the picnic and here he is. It had everything, a meal, bourbon, music and even their own bong.

Got to our lovely little cabin at Kianinny late in the afternoon. It’s a nice set up and we lit the wood fire straight away. Mum’s not very well at the moment so we offered to take dinner to her rather than have her try to cook. Fish and chips it was and they were quite yummy. The seafood sticks were great. Can recommend Bega Seafoods for a nice lot of fish and chips.

Tomorrow we are having a sleep in and an easy day. Will pop in to town and try and catch up with a friend and see mum and dad again. I am also planning on taking Dale around town to show him where I went to school. We might also go up to Araganu, where my family used to go camping when we were kids, if it doesn’t rain too much.

Enjoy the photos, Ciao for now.
