Week 4 – Friday – Cooma to Canberra

The children still had school today so we were all up bright and early. It was a very cold morning and the car was all iced over. After about 20 minutes with the engine running and the heater on we could see through the windscreen again. I had arranged to meet an internet friend on Friday morning for coffee at McDonalds so it worked out that we all left at the same time. I had forgotten to take photos at dinner the night before so took some around the breakfast table. Unfortunately I did miss out on getting one of Toby.

We drove past the junkyard from yesterday and there was ice all over the 4000 plus cars so Dale dropped me off at McDonalds and then went back to take some more photos. He had a great time walking around them all again and got some more great photos.

After my lovely meeting with “hairypawter” (her internet id) we headed up to Canberra to have lunch with a friend of mine that I used to work with in Sydney. She was out at Dunlop which neither Dale nor I have been to before so Claire came out and worked her trusty magic.

Ursula and Steve have a really nice home in Dunlop and Ursula, as always, cooked us a beautiful lasagna for lunch. I haven’t seen Ursula for a couple of years now but we just picked up where we left off and it was fantastic. I have made some really good friends over my time in Defence and I must say that although I can often be quite slack in keeping in touch I appreciate them all and do think of them often. Ursula has recently bought a new Holden Astra. As it was late being delivered she was given a Holden Lion similar to ours so I took a photo of the two of them on the bed.

We popped in to see a friend of Dale’s. Ron hasn’t been well for a while and on this occasion was particularly unwell and so we took him down to Woden Hospital. (We have since spoken to his wife Carol, and he is comfortable in hospital).

Today really was a catch up with friends day and another couple that Dale is friends with had organised for us to go out for dinner with a few old friends. I also invited along a couple of mine too. Dale had a great time catching up with these old friends who he hasn’t seen for a long time, one guy Craig he hadn’t seen for at least 10 years. I also had a great time catching up with what my friends had been up to.

Tomorrow we head up to Sydney. It’s another short driving day and we will be staying with one of my best friends there. Not sure what we will get up to but will let you know.

Ciao
