Week 5 – Friday – Roxby Downs

It has been another wonderful day today with Josh, Petra and Mina. Got up nice and early (8 o’clock) to do the tour. It was great. Really informative and although we didn’t get to go underground I am not sure that I would have wanted to. I don’t know how they do it. The mine is huge, well the surface part is huge and the mine is all underground below it. There are 300 kms of road under the surface. It is incredible. I have put a photo in of the mine site.

After we finished there back up to Josh and Petra’s to head out to Andamooka. If we had thought driving in to Roxby Downs was driving through nothing, driving out there was even more desolate and barren. Although we did see some horses and emus running around out there.

Lunch was very yummy. Mina got a little fright while at lunch. One of the men in the restaurant pretend growled at her and she got a bit upset. I have put a picture of her snuggled up into Petra. After lunch we had a look at some of the opals that were for sale.

Tonight we are having a BBQ for dinner and then a relatively early night. Tomorrow we are heading down to Ceduna which is going to take us about 7 hours and about 300 kms is dirt road. Fingers crossed we won’t get lost but that is the way that Claire is taking us.
