An Adventurer Must Eat and Eat Well

I have no fridge so have no fresh meat, camping in remote areas of the arid region of South Australia (SA). Fresh veggies make up much of my diet, while they last. Every couple of days I make a loaf of bread in the camp oven and it goes down well, fresh and hot, straight out of the oven, as well as toasted. Breakfast is usually two fried eggs followed by toast.

Not only is a kayak a great fitness machine but it gets me around the flat water rivers and lakes to enjoy and photograph their unique landscape, near on impossible otherwise.

Quadbike

With a cruising speed of around 50k/h on good going, the 4x4 bike and trailer carry photography gear, camp and tucker over considerable distances, allowing camping on site for the best light.

Mountain Bike

On the mountain bike I travel close enough to the ground and slow enough to see quite a bit that may otherwise be missed. Of course, the bike is mainly for travel on rural roads and tracks.

With a pack on my back, it's often not necessary to cover a great distance to capture the wilderness landscape. Anything from a few hundred metres to 15km can make a great day out in an isolated environment.

Subtlety pervaded the light, the colours and the tones as the first gentle illumination of morning dawned on the freshly fallen snow.

The biting cold wind accompanied by Kosciuszko snow scuds brought pain to my fingers as I carried an aluminium tripod over my shoulder with a heavy camera mounted. The fresh, powdery snow was quite dry so my feet didn't get wet and cold; that made it bearable. One hand in a pocket at a time helped too.

Wilderness Photography of the Kosciuszko snow revealed the harsh environment in a most unpleasant state for comfort and well being. Yet it looked so enticing, drawing me further from safety and warmth and begging questions of what's around the corner, over the rise, behind the scrub?
