ATV Camp Trailer: Load Capacity

The camping gear boxes mounted on the top level of the ATV camp trailer have a volume about half that of a 6 x 4 foot camping trailer.

ATV camp trailer with a gross weight of 250kg.

That’s not bad space for one wilderness traveler.

The heavy camping supplies will be on the trailer floor, keeping the centre of gravity low. Wouldn’t want to roll the camp trailer over.

The ATV manufacturer gives a maximum towing capacity of 250kg, so I’m limiting the trailer gross weight to the recommended towing capacity.

The combined weight of the ATV trailer, spare wheel and boxes is 100kg. Fuel weighs 60kg and water weighs 25kg. That being a total of 185kg, there is carrying capacity for 65kg remaining. The remaining load will be the tent, bag of spare clothes, canvas camp chair, sleeping bag, mattress, food and cooking utensils.

Over the next few days I’ll get all of the camping gear together, packing and repacking till it all works out well. Got to be well organized for successful wilderness travel, wilderness camping and wilderness photography.
