Close-up Sand Dunes – Andamooka 02

The sand ridges are rich with an abundance of plant life from the arid region trees to little wildflowers.

Native pine is common in the sand ridge country of Andamooka. Unlike the imported pine varieties, native pine doesn’r rot readily. In fact, many of the original fence lines, made of native pine are still standing firm after 80 or 100 years. The stockmen’s hut at Wirrda Wells is constructed of native pine, with the poles in the ground still solid, unaffected by rot or termites.

A kangaroo must have bounded over the sand ridge not too long before my arrival. The wind overnight would have soon obliterated the tracks, otherwise.
