Nice work, Laurie. Laurie and Lesley sound good together. I am definitely jealous of raspberry bushes in the back yard, but then I have the ocean at the bottom of mine, grey and cold though it is. Seaweed jam is not really my thing tho.

Thanks again for your help.

Yes indeed, a beautiful place, yet treacherous. I wouldn't swim there.

Thanks Chris.

I'm hoping to get down to Melbourne, later in the year, and visit that tin shed. I'd also like to see if I can find the tree with the lean on, though I doubt my chances.

From Wittlesea, where we had breakfast, the morning after the storm, we used to ride and walk up the mountain to Kinglake West and down the other side to camp on the King Parrot Creek.

Kinglake West is one of the areas that suffered severe tragedy in the recent bushfires. I'd like to do that run again, in the ute.

I'm hoping to visit the house in Fitzroy where my dad spent his first couple of years. I understand it's still there. Maybe I can find it in Google street view, too.

The other site that I'm hoping to visit is the grave of my dad's father.

So you can see that the tin shed figures fairly highly in my list of important places.

What a wonderful story Laurie! I can understand why you would have been emotional revisiting the tin shed in the street view from Google Earth!

As a seasoned storm chaser, I find myself in situations and have felt the same fear as an adult.

It's interesting, many people here know I chase storms and tell me about the same fear from a similar experience!

Regards,
Chris.

You have a way with words Laurie, and this page is a tribute to your Dad. You will always remember the comeradeship between you. What has been learnt from him your children and grandchildren are learning from you. He won't be forgotten, that's for sure.

Hi Laurie,
Great to read your adventures so far! We came through Wilcannia about 2 years ago, found the same as you, sort of like Beirut.
In the early seventies I came through as well, and found a thriving community around a then full river. A really attractive spot, so much so that we camped there for two days, just out of town on the banks of the Darling.
Sad to see not only the death of a town, but the death of a river as well.
Keep the stories coming in, I'm very envious as I sit here at work.
Cheers,
Tony

Thanks Jules.

I often get up off my swivel chair in front of the computer and head towards the door, with the intention of rebuilding the darkroom in the new shed. But usually by the time I've got to the back door I realize just how much work is involved in having that fun. So I go back the the computer.

Mind you, a couple of times I've got as far as looking around the shed and dreaming of a new darkroom. But then I realize it's not going to happen.

Ah well!
