Rebuilding camp trailer for desert photography trip
The fabrication of parts for rebuilding the ATV camp trailer.
As the time for another outback South Australian photography trip draws near, the urgency of rebuilding the small trailer that carries the camping gear intensifies.
On the previous trip, some of the country proved beyond the endurance of the construction, a crack developing in the draw bar and eventually, a weld holding the hub to the axle, let go.
The parts shown in this digital photo are for the trailer coupling: the part that goes on the trailer. The square bit is the body of the coupling and the large, high tensile bolt forms the shaft allowing for full rotation.
This set-up means that should trailer roll-over occur on some uneven ground, perhaps in a dry creek bed, the trailer won’t take the ATV (quad bike) with it.
The ATV camp trailer facilitates carrying sufficient gear for a week’s camping, traveling and photographing in the outback desert.
