Spare Wheel – Puncture – Outback Australia

Well, I’ve got a few spare wheels and tyres ready for the coming outback Australia trip on the motorbikes: my Kawasaki Bayou KLF300B and Nicky’s Suzuki JR80.

Spare wheels and tyres for the ute, two trailers and the two motorbikes. Quite a load to carry. With a bit of good luck and good management, we won't need any of them.

On my last trip I did a tyre on the ute on a rock on the road in to Pernatty Station.

The trailer with rather domestic tyres has given some trouble but never let me down out on the job. I’ve replaced the 14 inch wheels with 15 inch off a Holden Commodore. This meant I had to lift the body so the tyres would clear the mudguards under load, so I’ve now got better ground clearance on the trailer.

I have a spare rear wheel that fits the ATV (quadbike) and it’s small trailer. This spare wheel is fastened to the back of the trailer and I’ve tied a second hand tyre for Nicky’s Suzuki JR80 onto that.

Of course, if it comes to the crunch, I’ll put the spare rear wheel on the front of my ATV, but I don’t reckon it will steer real well with odd tyres.

And then, I’ll have another spare rear wheel and a spare front wheel for my ATV, left at the ute at the homestead.

For Nicky’s Suzuki JR80 we have two spare tubes each for the front and rear plus patches and tyre leavers.

I’ll head down the street today and see if I can get a couple of good, heavy tubeless tyre patches that may act as sleeves should Nicky do a tyre on a rock.

For my Kawasaki ATV I have puncture plugs, green goo and a pump.

As you can guess, I’m hoping for a puncture free trip, but I’m also preparing well in case we do get a flat tyre.
